Our online courses are held on Monday or Tuesday nights at 8pm Eastern time, 5pm Pacific time. The ATI advantage is our live, online classes. We have experienced mental health and substance abuse professionals who teach the class. All of them have over 15 years in the field and all of them still work with clients.
The classes usually last one hour, though we encourage our students to arrive early to talk with each other or stay late to talk with the professor. Currently we run two classes and they have between 10 – 14 persons in attendance. We encourage our students to attend the live sessions but if they miss a class, they can watch a recorded version of the class for credit.
Each course is 8 weeks long and each week students are required to read the textbook, come to class, take a quiz (8 quizzes) and every other week write a paper. There are 6 courses that make up the core curriculum (270 hours). The final course is held in conjunction with the Supervised Field Experience requirement, or internship / practicum etc. This course includes practice tests for the national exam. The costs of the textbooks is additional and range from $20 to $200 per session. Our textbooks come from the IC & RC ‘suggested’ reading list to prepare our students to take the IC & RC exam.
Students are required to pass with a 75% pass rate. We encourage our students to pass. For example, a student can take a quiz several times to improve their grade. But we are not just giving them the same test to memorize. All quizzes have 25 randomly generated questions and answers from a pool of 75 – 100 questions. The choice of the question and the order of the questions changes with each test. In other words, no two tests are alike. Therefore if a student fails, they have the opportunity to study the material again, then retake the exam. The beauty of ATI is the coursework is fully online. Students don’t have to quit their jobs or drive long distance each way to school. Online doesn’t mean that there aren’t deadlines or due dates for assignments, just that there is flexibility in completing tasks when the schedul permits.
